This is not a gift to Russia. This is symptomatic of deep problems ukraine has with endemic corruption, far right affiliations, self serving politicians playing lip service to European values etc. 

All the problems that Ukraine has always had and have been brushed over by its supporters

Russia is the aggressor and is also deeply flawed, but it’s also a useful excuse to bury the problems Ukraine has.

The EU succession negotiations were supposed to start on Friday.

But the Ukraine’s EU ambassador said that multiple countries had a problem with opening negotiations – notjust Hungary. Diplomats who have been covering Eastern Europe are well aware of what Ukraine is actually like.
