Grand Jury indicts Newton police lieutenant who allegedly killed 21-year-old, officials say

NEWTON, N.C. (WBTV) - A lieutenant with the Newton Police Department was indicted by a Catawba County Grand Jury on Monday with second-degree murder after he allegedly killed a motorcyclist at the end of last month.

The Newton Police Department said on Monday, July XX the grand jury returned a true bill of indictment for second-degree murder against Lt. Carlos Uribe.

Police said that Uribe turned himself into the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office after being served with the indictment. He has been placed on administrative leave without pay, per departmental policy.

Officials said that the department’s internal investigation into the shooting is still being conducted.
