In 1957, the U.S. military unintentionally dropped a 20-megaton nuclear bomb near Albuquerque, New Mexico. The bomb’s nuclear core was not installed, so it didn’t detonate, but the conventional explosives triggered, creating a 25-foot-wide crater.
