10-Year Sentence for Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader in May X Riots Case 

The federal government has welcomed the Sargodha Anti-Terrorism Court’s decision to sentence Malik Ahmed Khan Bhachar, Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, to XX years in prison over his involvement in the May 9, 2023 riots.

The riots erupted nationwide after the arrest of former PM Imran Khan, with PTI supporters vandalizing military installations and state buildings. The violent protests led to the arrest of thousands, including several top PTI leaders.

📍 Speaking in Islamabad, Minister of State for Law and Justice, Barrister Aqeel Malik, hailed the judgment as “a positive step” and a reflection that justice has been upheld.
