In a functioning system, higher interest rates would attract demand for peso assets.

In Argentina, the opposite is happening: people borrow pesos to buy dollars, betting on continued depreciation. The interest rate hike becomes a signal of desperation, not confidence.

This reflects a deeply dollarised mindset; the public does not trust the peso, regardless of yield.
