The $GDX just hit a new 52-week high—ahead of gold. The last time GDX was this high was October 2012. But back then, gold was just $XXXXX. So gold prices have doubled, yet major gold mining stocks are flat. That tells you how cheap they still are. If you buy now it's still early.
