That would be ideal, but this government is spending money as if we had it to spare—racking up a massive deficit and paying interest that now exceeds more than twice the defence budget. We’ll be dealing with the consequences of this for years to come. What’s more, many people genuinely believe that printing money magically grows the economy without repercussions, or they begin demanding higher taxes on the rich, instead of holding the government accountable for spending within the country’s economic means.
