The claim that doctors in Australia have developed the world’s first bionic eye to fully restore vision in blind people is partially true, but it needs clarification.

Australian scientists have created the Gennaris Bionic Vision System, a pioneering technology designed to *restore some degree of sight* to people with certain types of blindness by bypassing damaged optic nerves and directly stimulating the brain’s vision center with signals from a camera; however, while it offers new hope and significant improvements (such as perceiving shapes and movement with a wide field of view), it does not yet fully restore natural human vision—the technology is currently entering human clinical trials to assess its effectiveness and safety further.

So, it’s a major breakthrough and could revolutionize blindness treatment, but “fully restore vision” is not yet accurate, as the restored vision is still limited and doesn’t match normal eyesight.
