Because Dharma distinguishes between ritual and relevance. X. Cremation in Sanatan Dharma is not just disposal of the body. It is a conscious spiritual act meant to burn karma, ego, and worldly attachments liberating the soul. X. But an infant has no karma. No ego. No worldly attachments. They haven’t begun the journey of “karma phal” (fruits of action). Hence, no need for cremation. X. An infant hasn’t undergone major sanskaras (rites of passage): •Vidyarambh (beginning of learning) •Upanayan (initiation into dharma) •Vivah (entry into grihastha ashram) •Antyeshti (last rites) No sanskar = no karmic identity. X. Cremation is meant to dissolve the subtle body and assist the soul’s release from material entanglement. But a baby is not entangled. The soul remains untouched neither polluted by desires nor actions. X. Hence, infants are traditionally buried, not cremated. Why? Because they are seen as closer to nature (prakriti), not yet fully part of the karmic cycle. The Earth reclaims them gently. X. In some traditions, the body is placed in an earthen pot or wrapped in lotus leaves, and buried near rivers or sacred trees. This reflects Sanatan Dharma’s alignment with natural laws not mechanical ritualism. X. Even for adults, cremation is not universal. Many yogis, sants, and siddhas are buried in samadhi. Why?
