Eritrea 🇪🇷 and the UAE once had close ties, with the 🇦🇪 operating its largest East African military base in Assab. However, relations have since cooled due to diverging interests. The base was dismantled in early 2021, and UAE 🇦🇪 operations were later moved to Bosaso Airport.
