Panasonic's De Soto deal epitomizes everything wrong with corporate welfare. The APEX program shoveled $829M in Kansas taxpayer incentives with zero binding job or wage requirements - now they're scaling back production while keeping the cash. Combine that with federal 45X manufacturing credits from the Inflation Reduction Act, and you've got a $8B taxpayer-funded buffet for foreign corporations.

The "investment" math only works if you ignore the $2M-per-job price tag and locked-in subsidies regardless of performance. EVs might have potential, but rigged deals that prioritize corporate handouts over accountability ensure taxpayers always lose.

Time to scrap these blank-check programs and make companies earn incentives through verifiable results.
