In PREINDUSTRIAL society women WORKED inside the home and on the land around the home INCREDIBLY HARD and had no property rights or income of their own and lost custody of their kids if they ever left for any reason including domestic violence or marital rape. I am not saying it is not a blessing to look after your family. I am saying that forgetting this history of the legal slavery in which women were held in a "domestic" context, before the slow victories of equality under law in the last XXX years, is really unhelpful.
