Niger has opened a probe into the auction of a Martian meteorite, NWA 16788, by Sotheby’s in the US

The rock, found in the Agadez Region in 2023 and believed to have traveled XXX million miles from Mars, may have been trafficked illegally.

The auction house and the meteorite hunter remain silent as concerns grow over its origin.
