The @PortaltoBitcoin team hinted at a Testnet V2 on the Road to Launch Ep X space; a closed testnet.

According to their latest article, it’s been carried out.
Here’s what’s new:

• V2 was never launched publicly - faucet abuse, bot spam, and infra overload made open testing unsustainable

• It supported BTC, ETH, Solana, Lightning, and the Portal Chain - swaps worked internally, but infra couldn’t handle scale

• 900K wallets/day hit the system, breaking faucet systems and draining resources

• Supporting X chains across relayers, nodes, explorers became unscalable

• Testnet upkeep started pulling too much time from Mainnet engineering

• A pivot was made: V3 testnet is now private, invite-only, and rewardless

• No faucet, no public rollout - just clean internal testing for devs and partners

• Mainnet remains the focus, and this shift protects it

What I really think:

This feels more like a necessary reset than a sign of Mainnet readiness.

They’ve proven parts of the system work, but scaling it publicly is still the real test and they’re clearly not there yet.

Going private lets them work in peace, avoid pressure, and focus.
It makes sense.

But until they show it running under stress, it’s hard to call this momentum.
