Buddhism might lack a doctrinal basis for holy war, but once it is fused with nationalism, ethnicity, or state power, like in Myanmar or Sri Lanka, it has been used to justify horrific violence.

Not because the Buddha taught it, but because even the most peaceful philosophy can become a weapon when power gets involved.

And while some schools frame Buddhism as a philosophy rather than a religion, in practice it functions as a religion for millions. It includes institutions, rituals, clergy, and political influence.

The danger isn’t in the doctrine. It’s in what people do with it once power, fear, and identity enter the room.
