Germany and Norway to Support Ukraine with Air Defense

Germany and Norway have agreed to jointly finance air defense support for Ukraine. Berlin will supply Kyiv with two Patriot systems from its own stockpiles, which will later be replenished by the U.S. Norway will cover part of the costs.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced the deal after a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Merz stated that Washington has given a preliminary green light to send replacement systems, though the details are still being finalized. Each Patriot system is estimated to cost around €1 billion.

Meanwhile, the Netherlands is allocating €200 million for drone interceptors and an additional €125 million to maintain F-16 aircraft for Ukraine.
