This is correct. 

The issues most tend to choose are largely dependent on the wind of public opinion, western visas and funding. 

Take for instance activists in the gender based violence space. You have a high profile murder trial of a woman who has no business being in jail or in court. 

It is revealed she was beaten to a pulp then, as has become clearer in court, framed for the murder of her husband. 

All you have coming from those quarters is silence. 

You have nearly XX% of the female prison population in Uganda being there on domestic violence related charges. Still, silence. 

Why? It doesn’t play very well with the “cool brigade”. It’s bad for the brand.
