The U.S. has declassified documents related to the murder of Martin Luther King Jr.

Donald Trump's administration has released over XXXXXXX pages of FBI archives concerning the life and assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., the legendary civil rights leader who was shot in 1968.

The documents had been sealed since 1977. Their release had been delayed multiple times, but they are now accessible to the public.

It remains unclear whether any of the files shed new light on the murder, according to the Associated Press.

Bernice King, Martin Luther King Jr.'s daughter, took a jab at Trump by posting a photo of her father with the caption: “Now release the Epstein files.”

King was under heavy FBI surveillance and wiretaps. The agency tried to discredit him and the civil rights movement. FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover considered King a threat to national security.

King was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis. James Earl Ray was convicted and sentenced to XX years. Ray initially pleaded guilty but later claimed he was coerced.

Until his death in 1998, Ray maintained he was innocent. King’s children have long believed he was not a lone assassin.
