So let's make three things clear: X. I live for and will die by the US Constitution X. Every civic system begins to age as soon as it's forged- not from external pressures, but from internal actions. X. It is in the interest of the party out of power to maintain the status quo, it is in the interest of the party in power to define the new system. If you define the new system, you own the future. If you have to choose between maintaining the system and owning the future, you choose the latter. In a two party system, the constitution will be gradually ripped apart through the revolving power imbalance. The only way out is either through armed rebellion, or through the establishment of a new system through a one-party process. None of these are value statements on the constitution.
