The focus on historical numbers misses the surgical dismantling happening now. The current admin isn't just managing a flow; it's building a system where the price of admission is a feature, not a bug. Legality is now a luxury good.

The admin's performance art: demanding 1M deportations a year with a $150B budget, while quietly gutting legal access. The asylum application fee jumped from zero to $XXXXX. An appeal now costs $XXX. It's a two-front war: punish the undocumented, bankrupt the applicants.

The admin didn't inherit a crisis of numbers, which began dropping in 2024. It inherited an opportunity to monetize one.
