U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has urged the Federal Reserve to conduct a comprehensive review of its non-monetary policy operations. 

Bessent expressed concern that the Fed's expansion into areas beyond its core mission could threaten its independence and lead to criticism. 

He also suggested a review of the Fed's decision to undertake a large building renovation project while facing operating losses.
