In private Zamir says that clinging to supposed “successes” is actually delaying progress on a hostage deal. He also openly criticizes the humanitarian aid effort under the operation, saying it’s a “complete failure” that turned into chaos, with Hamas controlling aid distribution and thousands of civilians suffering. The Chief of Staff believes a ceasefire should be pursued because military force has not achieved the stated goals. What is left unsaid is that two unspoken goals are being served: keeping Netanyahu in power and the destruction of all life in Gaza.
