A lot of people expected a 6ft4 box monster and were shocked to find he’s the complete opposite. Imo, that’s partly why he was written off so early in the season. I’ve said before that he could even become Bruno’s long-term replacement. And yeah, that might sound ridiculous given Bruno’s creative influence, but let’s be honest, very few players can replicate what he does anyway so expectations need to be lowered once he leaves. Zirkzee already operates like a midfielder at times, frequently dropping into deeper areas to link play. He’s press-resistant, has shown real vision and passing range on multiple occasions, and I genuinely think he can thrive in that space between Cunha and Mbeumo. He has the technique to combine with Cunha on the left, and the intelligence to drop, drag markers, and open passing lanes for Mbeumo to run on the right. He’s a really useful profile to have, and I just hope we manage to get the best out of him.
