The most important thing in investing is buying companies you believe can sustainably grow earnings for long durations of time and selling them when you no longer believe they can. 

Everything else is a tactic or strategy to get to this end goal. 

There’s so much noise online that makes this more difficult than needs be. 

If your portfolio is growing aggregate EPS (or you can substitute for FCF/Share) at a faster and more consistent pace than the market, you will beat the market over long stretches of time.
