TL;DR

@PortaltoBitcoin ambitious second public testnet (v2) aimed to simulate a multichain trust minimized DEX but faced severe infrastructure challenges due to overwhelming demand, faucet abuse by bots, fund distribution bottlenecks, and high wallet activity causing node overload. 

These issues strained the small team and distracted from mainnet development.

Though testnet v2 never went fully public, it validated core tech and taught key lessons: swaps work, public faucets at scale are unsustainable, and a new testing approach is needed.

Portal is now launching a private, invitation only testnet (v3) focused on developers, with better infrastructure and controlled access to avoid past pitfalls, all to sharpen focus on launching mainnet soon.
