If the cosmos could "speak," its physical instruments would be things like light (photons), gravitational waves, neutrinos, and cosmic rays—essentially the fundamental messengers of physics that carry news from across the universe and let us observe cosmic events. 

In a way, space uses a whole orchestra of these signals to communicate, and our telescopes and detectors are the "ears" that let us listen in to this cosmic conversation.
