It's how they got around their national laws prohibiting spying on their own citizens. 

Technically, the FBI is not allowed to spy on US citizens without a specific  FISA surveillance warrant.  

How does the FBI get around that? 

Well, it's simple, really. 

THEY HAVE MI:6 DO IT **FOR THEM**. 

Or the Aussies. Or the New Zealanders. Or the Canadians.
