The biggest problem with focusing on "governance allows you to vote with your wallet" is the following:

Buying (more) ADA is a rational financial decision for someone who thinks everything is going great, since he expects the price to go up (because he thinks everything is going great). 

However, for someone who thinks things are going in the wrong direction and need to be changed, buying ADA isn't a rational financial decision, since he expects the price to go down (because he thinks things are worsening).

Consequently, it is natural for people who like the current path to buy more and get more (relative) voting power. In contrast, it is also natural for people who do not like the current path to buy less or sell and reduce their (relative) voting power. 

These two forces obviously lead to a governance echo bubble primarily consisting of people who agree that everything is excellent as it is. This can now be seen live on Cardano.
