If UK companies win deals funded by the EU’s new Safe program, the British government has to pay back a cut to Brussels. The EU says that’s only fair: if you want the benefits, you’ve got to chip in like everyone else. To qualify, XX% of the weapon’s parts must come from EU countries or other approved members like Ukraine, Norway, and Switzerland. The exact price tag is still being worked out, but bids for funding are due by July XX. Britain has signed the first of two deals required to join; now it’s racing the clock to finalize the second. Britain wants access to a massive EU defense pot to help its arms industry land contracts and create jobs, but there's a fee to play.
If UK companies win deals funded by the EU’s new Safe program, the British government has to pay back a cut to Brussels.
The EU says that’s only fair: if you want the benefits, you’ve got to chip in like everyone else.
