(Nonnegotiable tip: If you have kids, you need term life. If you have more kids, you need MORE term life.) Nurse checks my vitals and says: "Are you a runner? That’s the lowest resting heart rate I’ve ever seen." It was XX bpm. For context—I weigh almost XXX lbs. I run but am certainly not “a runner.” And truthfully, XX isn’t even that low. Mine is often lower and endurance athletes can hit the 30s. But the bar for health is on the ground. Most people have a resting heart rate of 70+ and are told that’s “normal.” But normal just means average—and the average person today is metabolically sick. Cardiovascular systems are undertrained. Bodies are overweight and overstressed. And the standard we’re measuring against is broken. If you don’t set your own standards, you’ll fall to the level of those around you. And in today’s world, that’s a dangerous place to be.
