You're looking at the wrong figures!

Americans have $XX trillion in equity in their homes, currently an all-time high.  Other nations can only dream of this wealth!

Many folks like me can pay off their mortgages but why bother when it's 2.75%.  I have $800k in equity along with a small mortgage, comparatively speaking.
