My approach is this: How are American interests best advanced?

In absence of the threat from Iran — which has manifested itself as a threat to regional (and therefore global) stability — I would agree with Yglesias that the the US subsidization of Israel should stop, but as long as the present regime in Iran exists and continues to threaten American interests, I'm in favor of continued aid to Israel and military cooperation.

The recent damage to Iran's nuclear program wouldn't have occurred without US aid and direct military support. For now, that's reason enough for me to think that financial aid to Israel shouldn't be stopped.
