The vote is expected at approximately 5:30 p.m. ET. Should the cloture motion succeed, a final confirmation vote on Cole's nomination could occur as early as the following day. Cole, a former DEA special agent and current Virginia Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security, was nominated for the position by President Donald Trump. His nomination was favorably reported by the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 22, 2025, and then passed to the full Senate. Cole's views on marijuana have been a subject of discussion, as he previously voiced concerns about its dangers and linked its use to higher suicide risk among youth. However, he has also indicated that examining marijuana rescheduling would be one of his first priorities if confirmed as DEA Administrator.
