Many of us have seen this line often from the @boundless_xyz X account:

"Base, optimism etc.. is helping power the Signal on Boundless mainnet beta" but most people including myself had no idea what that really means.

So I did some research and this is what it means:

Boundless is a network where apps can request zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs to prove some work was done correctly offchain. To get that proof, they send out a Signal kind of like a job post saying “Hey, I need this work verified!”

Now, for that signal to be picked up and answered by provers (the ones who do the work and submit the proof), it needs to be posted on a blockchain. That’s where Base or any blockchain that partners with Boundless comes in.

Base is acting like a bulletin board. Boundless uses it to publish the Signal so that provers can find it, grab the task, and send back a verified proof.

So when Boundless says Base is helping power the Signal, it simply means Base is the chain being used to send out these proof requests in the mainnet beta.
