Chinhengo has informed High Court judge president Petrus Damaseb that "for personal reasons he will no longer be able to continue with the conduct of the [Fishrot] case", the Office of the Judiciary announced in a statement on Monday. It was also announced that an acting judge, Marilize du Plessis, has been appointed to take over the trial of the accused charged in the Fishrot case. Du Plessis, who is a regional court magistrate based at Otjiwarongo, has been appointed as an acting judge of the High Court from the start of August 2025 to the end of July 2026, the Office of the Judiciary announced in an earlier statement on Monday. The Fishrot trial, in which pleas have been recorded from all of the XX individual accused and XX companies, close corporations and trusts charged in the matter, is scheduled to continue from X August. Three of the accused – former attorney general and minister of justice Sacky Shanghala, James Hatuikulipi and Pius Mwatelulo – have objected to Chinhengo's appointment as an acting judge of Namibia's High Court. An application by them to have his appointment set aside is pending in the Windhoek High Court. New judge to take over Fishrot trial

ACTING High Court judge Moses Chinhengo will no longer be presiding over the Fishrot trial about alleged corruption and fraud with the allocation and use of Namibian fishing quotas.
Chinhengo has informed High Court judge president Petrus Damaseb that "for personal reasons he will no longer be able to continue with the conduct of the [Fishrot] case", the Office of the Judiciary announced in a statement on Monday.
It was also announced that an acting judge, Marilize du Plessis, has been appointed to take over the trial of the accused charged in the Fishrot case.
