Agree, China got to where it was with the beneficiary of these large resource endowments. 

But then the game changed, and fossil fuels mattered much more starting in the 19th with coal and into the 20th century (especially petroleum).

That is the context its modern institutions, economy, and what I argue is its “predilection” for capital-intensive development I discuss in the thread.
