Mikel Arteta says he is “100 percent” that Arsenal followed the correct processes regarding Thomas Partey, who since leaving the club has been charged with serious sexual offences.

When previously contacted by The Athletic about the charges, Arsenal issued the following statement: “The player’s contract ended on XX June. Due to ongoing legal proceedings the club is unable to comment on the case.”

Asked by The Athletic about the charges Partey faces, and whether they were a consideration in the decision not to extend his contract, Arteta said: “The club was very clear in its statement. There are a lot of legal matters that are very complicated so I cannot comment on any of that.”

Arteta was then asked whether he was comfortable and confident that the club had followed the correct processes regarding the matter, and responded: “100 percent, yes.”
