This mirrors Trump's 2017-2021 pattern: legitimize strongmen committing atrocities (MBS's Yemen bombings, Erdogan's Kurdish purges) while claiming "deals." The "moderate rebel" fiction persists—same groups beheading kids in 2016 now get White House handshakes.
