Wife is “singular” not plural. And the Old Testament is not the end of the oracles. All language in the new testament is One wife. Elders must be husband to one wife. Jesus Christ has “one bride”. Adam had one wife “Eve”. Anything outside of the one wife structure is not a God made tradition or institution by “man made”. 

All New Testament scripture speaks to one wife. 

**1 Timothy 3:2**  
"Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach."

**1 Timothy 3:12**  
"Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well."

**Titus 1:6**  
"If anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination."

**Matthew 19:4–6**  
"He answered, ‘Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh”? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.’"

**Mark 10:6–9**  
"But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate."

**1 Corinthians 7:2**  
"But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband."

**Ephesians 5:31**  
"Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh."
