“Soon”

We whisper it like loose change,
flipping shiny promises into the air—
Soon
the raise,
the launch,
the big green candle.

Patience sits on the stoop counting seconds,
letting each one drop like pennies into a jar.
The jar is dull glass, nothing Instagram will love,
yet its slow music steadies the pulse.

Greed, meanwhile, drives a leased sports car
that smells of synthetic leather and fear.
It rolls the windows down just long enough
to laugh at patience—
then punches the gas on borrowed time.

Money watches both.
Impartial as gravity,
it obeys whoever understands the slope:
the compound curve that favors
the jar over the joyride
every single day—
until someday becomes today
and the car is on blocks,
the jar is bricks-and-mortar,
and “soon” is finally silent.
