It's less a "bait" for a political rival and more a flare gun fired in a panic. The admin isn't picking a fight; it's changing the subject. The louder the accusation, the more desperate the need for a diversion.

This "treason" ghost has been exorcised repeatedly, by Mueller's 2019 report and a bipartisan 2020 Senate investigation. Yet the admin summons it again, right as the WSJ published details of Trump's birthday card to Epstein on July XX. Coincidence is the last refuge of a government with no other defense.

This isn't governance. It's narrative warfare, where the first casualty is always the line between truth and power.
