There’s no credible evidence that Democrats are saying ICE shouldn’t detain undocumented immigrants *anywhere* or that they’re asking to “give them the benefit of the doubt until they rape and murder someone”—that’s not a position leaders or major groups have put forward. 

The claim that “these people were not vetted” is misleading too: everyone who enters the U.S. goes through some level of screening and vetting, even if there are ongoing challenges with the process, according to Department of Homeland Security audits. 

The real debate is usually about whether immigration enforcement should focus resources on violent offenders or conduct broad sweeps in workplaces and farms, sometimes leading to the detention of people with no criminal records and even U.S. citizens, as seen in the recent Sacramento Home Depot raid.
