Most Canadians, including journalists, don't seem to get that XX% of Canada's exports to the US fall under USMCA, and are therefore tariff free, except for the sectoral tariffs on steel and aluminum which are obviously bad. Compared to other countries, Canada still has good access to the US market and hopefully Carney will get the sectoral tariffs reduced. All of this obsession with tariffs disguises the real problem: Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill. The US will become a more attractive place for foreign direct investment than Canada because of our high taxes and dumb regulations. This is the stuff we have to be working on and it has nothing to do with the US. It's reforming our bad domestic economic policies. Lutnick is right.
