Transferring from the Dutch National Opera Amsterdam to the @teatrosancarlo  in Naples, only #IsmaelJordi remains from the premiere cast. In Jetske Mijnssen's production of "Roberto Devereux", his top notes sound a little tired, though the vocal lines have a pleasantly delicate touch. #NicolaAlaimo and #AnnalisaStroppa are otherwise the best in the cast, which was originally supposed to be led by Roberta Mantegna as Elisabetta. But the Italian remains inconspicuous, failing to turn the role into a bel canto bravura piece, while also showing little acting prowess. #RiccardoFrizza and the Teatro San Carlo Orchestra, on the other hand, provide decent brio, thanks partly due even with deliberately measured tempi. This in contrast to the staging, which barely explores the political dimension of Elisabeth's private dilemma.
