There was a strong social consensus from 2017 to 2025 that Russia interfered in the 2016 election, despite the underlying data never supporting that consensus.  People trusted those with authority to not lie to them, but as those lies are exposed the social consensus begins to weaken.

In another X years, the social consensus will be that you were a moron for believing this, and they'll be right.  Always look for the underlying data, ignore those with authority who are lying about it.
