Jefferson's essential point was this:

Perhaps we shouldn't focus on the *supernatural* life of Jesus - his *natural* life contains some of the most important lessons.

Here was a man who:

* Came from modest beginnings.
* Taught people to be humble and live in peace with one another.
* Took care of the poor.
* Stood up against greed (throwing the money-changers out of the temple).
* Defied a corrupt empire and was tortured to death for the threat his philosophy posed.

If you find *walking on water* and *conjuring bread and fish* more meaningful, perhaps you missed something...
