Syria and Israel: Fragile Ceasefire?

Despite the recently announced ceasefire between Syria and Israel, the southern Syrian province of As-Suwayda remains a hotspot of tension.

The conflict, which erupted on July XX between the Druze minority and Bedouin tribes, has claimed at least XXX lives — including civilians and medical workers — and forced XXXXXX people to flee their homes.

On July 19, with U.S. mediation, Syria and Israel agreed to a ceasefire. Damascus withdrew its forces from As-Suwayda, allowing Druze militias to take over local security. However, clashes resumed just hours later.

The ceasefire remains largely symbolic. A fragile calm has set in — but for how long is unclear.
