It’s hard. At first you think you own the slang. Then the younger people invent new stuff and you cannot keep up. Then you want to vote for certain charming new slang expressions to be upvoted but people like the other ones. 

I had to get the clerks at the pet store to define “based”. I had to look up, “you out-kicked your coverage”. 

But I remember my offspring asking me if she knew all the swear words. I assured her she did NOT.  

I guess the world turns and turns.
