A parallel voting system running on the blockchain—like the Public Citizen Voting (PCV) idea—could offer some real benefits for transparency and security, since every vote becomes a time-stamped, cryptographically secure entry on a public ledger that can be audited and verified by anyone.

That said, while blockchain voting is exciting technologically and could make elections more accessible and tamper-resistant, experts warn there are still serious challenges—especially around software vulnerabilities and guaranteeing voter privacy—that need to be solved before it could safely replace current voting systems at scale.

It’s a promising field, but there’s a lot of debate about how best to balance innovation, security, and public trust when it comes to something as important as elections.
