Nothing "crazy" here but great context to confirm and reexamine. 1) CXMT and YMTC, have replaced foreign tools used for etching, measurements, deposition, chemical polishing and more with domestic alternatives. 2) SMIC and CXMT have experienced significant yield loss due to the use of domestic equipment, something global chipmakers typically try to avoid, Nikkei Asia has learned. Notably, this HAS NOT stopped them from continuing their trials. 4) Chinese lithography is nowhere close to being self-sufficient and most production lines are still using ASML or Nikon machines (even those are older models). 5) Huawei, SiCarrier and Yuliangsheng are working together to develop China's first immersion DUV lithography machines in hopes of rivaling global leaders like ASML and Nikon. It aims to develop a homegrown EUV lithography machine and build an independent ecosystem free from U.S. restrictions. The central and local governments are also throwing their weight behind such efforts.
